Who is it that thinks?
Is it body-mind?

What if it is not body-mind that thinks?
How do we know that it is?

How can we know that to a dead body-mind, thought does not happen?

Where and to whom does the thought happen then?

Trees always grow unless they are dead.

Dead trees make good tables and other furniture.

Within the tree in front of my house, I wonder how the decision will take place. To grow from here and not there. There has to be a system at work. Lots of communication cables must be carrying information within the tree from one end to the other. Is it the root or the trunk that will eventually signal a go ahead for the tree to become green again?

I don't think that a tree thinks. But then how can this be explained??

There was a big tall tree, that I could see..
Through the glass patio doors.
Yesterday; 2 men climbed on top and brought the tree down.
Later, the neighbour said that it was leaning too much and could have fallen - so he had it 'put down'.
I hope it rests in peace. I am not sure if it will grow again. May be it has lots of family, who are already growing. I wonder, if its family knows that the big tall tree is no more.

There is an big old tree in front of my house. A few days ago some council men came and trimmed almost all of its branches. What is left now is only bare truncated branches. It used to be full of leaves and seeds. We are told that branches and leaves will grow back. It's been 3 weeks now. No sign of any life on it yet. But somehow I believe those people, that it will grow its branches and leaves again.

There must be lots of activities going on inside the tree right now. I wonder how, when and where the first twig will pop out. How will it be decided. There are dozens of bare branches probably hundreds of meters in total in this tree. Somehow somewhere something is getting ready to come outside.

The tree I believe will go back to its formal glory soon. Well I really really hope so :-)

True.

The pre-requisite for any question is to be a 'self'.

And all 'selves' are forms of 'life'.

And the life is not separate from 'non-live'. Infact, feeds on oxygen etc.

'One' is what exists. Whatever that is.

Thinking probably is a by-product of language.

(I remember reading somewhere that you can not think if you don't have a language.)

Knowledge probably is entirely based on thinking.

The question/identity of 'you' or 'I' obiviously are an aftermath.

Yes to your question.

I think once language triggers thinking which accumulates knowledge, the questions/answers are born.

I found the the following site on the net. Perhaps the best research facility in the world. Stanford and MIT.

http://www.edge.org/3rd_culture/boroditsky09/boroditsky09_index.html

the last paragraph of which is pasted below.

Other studies have found effects of language on how people construe events, reason about causality, keep track of number, understand material substance, perceive and experience emotion, reason about other people's minds, choose to take risks, and even in the way they choose professions and spouses.8 Taken together, these results show that linguistic processes are pervasive in most fundamental domains of thought, unconsciously shaping us from the nuts and bolts of cognition and perception to our loftiest abstract notions and major life decisions. Language is central to our experience of being human, and the languages we speak profoundly shape the way we think, the way we see the world, the way we live our lives.
